00Hire me

Hyperfocus,
for hire.

I once spent an entire evening making sure every contact in my phone had the correct company logo attached. Nobody asked me to. It made the phone feel right in a way I struggle to justify out loud.

It turns out that instinct — the willingness to go further than the job requires — is worth money to people who do not have it. So here it is, priced.

01Smart home

Make it work once,
then stop thinking about it.

Most smart homes fail the same way: a pile of apps, three ecosystems that do not talk, and automations nobody trusts. I plan them so the lights come on when you walk in and keep doing it in two years, without a subscription holding the whole thing hostage.

02Project planning & sourcing

I already did
the forty tabs.

You want to build a thing. Somewhere between the idea and the first order, there are three evenings of research, six contradictory forum threads, and one part that turns out to be the wrong size. I will do that part for you.

Project Brief — $150

One project, fully researched, delivered as a document you can actually order from.

  • Complete parts list with exact models and current prices
  • Direct links, plus the cheaper alternative where one exists
  • The order to buy and build in, so nothing blocks anything
  • Tools you need, and which you can borrow instead of buy
  • The three mistakes people make on this specific build
  • Realistic total cost and realistic total time

Build Guide — $275

Everything in the Brief, plus the part where I stay involved while you build it.

  • Step-by-step written guide for your exact parts
  • Wiring diagrams or CAD where the project needs them
  • Two weeks of questions answered by email
  • A troubleshooting section for what usually goes wrong
  • Revisions if you change direction partway

Things people have wanted this for: a sim racing rig on a budget, a home server that is quiet enough for a bedroom, a workshop bench with the right lighting, a first 3D printer setup, a garage that finally has enough outlets in the right places. If it involves buying twelve things that have to work together, it is the right fit.

03Digital tidying

The stuff that is
absurd to do yourself.

Tasks where the work is genuinely tedious, the result is genuinely lovely, and no reasonable person would spend their weekend on it. I am not a reasonable person about this. That is the entire value proposition.

Contacts
$120/ one-off
Up to 500 contacts

The one I do for fun anyway.

  • Duplicates merged, not just flagged
  • Company logos attached to business contacts
  • Phone numbers normalised to one format
  • Job titles and companies filled in where findable
  • Dead entries archived, not silently deleted
Tidy my contacts
Media library
$180/ from
Music, film or TV

Correct metadata, correct artwork, correct everything.

  • Album art at full resolution, not 300px thumbnails
  • Tags corrected against a real database
  • Compilations and features attributed properly
  • Consistent naming across the whole library
  • Duplicate and dead-file cleanup
Fix my library

Something else that is bugging you every day and never quite worth an afternoon? Describe it — this list came from real requests and it keeps growing.

04Enquire

What are you
trying to do?

No forms with fifteen required fields, and no discovery call before anyone says a number. Tell me the situation and I will reply with what I think it needs and exactly what it costs.

If it turns out you do not need me — the answer is a $40 device and twenty minutes — I will tell you that instead, and it will not cost you anything.

Or email drew@drewspringer.net directly.
